Ashcombe Maze and Lavender Gardens
The Mornington Peninsula in Australia is popular for its numerous landmarks, among which Ashcombe Maze – the biggest and the most famous on the mainland – is of particular interest. The walls of the maze of cypress trees reach 3 meters high and 2 metres wide. The cypresses were planted there in 1970, and are getting larger.
Located next to the cypress maze, a lavender labyrinth and garden can be seen. Year round flowering lavender are planted there, so visitors could enjoy purple and lilac blossom and their unique flavour. In addition, in the gift shop you can buy lavender beauty products. Visitors are also offered to walk in the maze of roses, where around 1200 rose bushes of different varieties grow. Amazing woodland gardens are worth seeing too.
The mazes and gardens are located about an hour by car from Melbourne. You should follow the M1. It is more complicated to get to the gardens by bus, as they run not frequently. From Frankston Station, take a bus on Route 782, get off at Shoreham Rd, then walk about 1 kilometre to the mazes. The park is open daily from 8am to 5pm. Entrance fee is about 18.5 Australian dollars.
